![]() What’s wrong with having narrative aspirations that extend deeper than “let’s make people hoot with glee while they blow sh*t up!”? Just because games generally haven’t done so well with that sort of thing before, it doesn’t mean they can’t. I’d like to think, however, that calling out Spec Ops for its controversial and heavy subject matter is missing the point. It doesn’t redefine gameplay for a new generation or anything like that, but it plays well enough. The actual play is familiar enough, a cover-based third-person shooter, sort of a cross in feel between Gears of War and Uncharted, only with some light squad tactics thrown in as well. We’re talking about a game in which American soldiers, albeit AWOL ones, are the enemy you’re frequently tasked with gunning down. The cynical perspective on Spec Ops is that it’s just courting controversy. When the final scene in the demo played - a scene, I might add, that I’ve been asked to only hint at - I was left staring at the screen for a few minutes, almost speechless. I’ve had plenty of games leave me feeling uneasy, but this was markedly different. Like “walking along a narrow path that doubles as a gore-soaked mass grave” uncomfortable. It’s hard to say how the game’s full story will feel as it unfolds in sequence, but there’s no denying that Spec Ops is filled with moments designed to make you feel truly uncomfortable. It was such an unfamiliar sensation to go with a game that it frankly took my a few hours to pin a word to the state the demo left me in. Fitbit Versa 3Īfter spending more than an hour playing through a sizable chunk of Yager Developments’ Spec Ops: The Line last week, I found that a peculiar sensation had set in, one that I don’t typically associate with my gaming habits. Its not a game to play in you're free time to waste time, its the type that will come to you before sleep time which proves how well made it is. Once you've played the game you will never forget it. In overall spec ops the line is a fine 9/10. If you're asking me check out the glasgow track from mogwai, 10/10. And at last but not the least the music, there is not much to say except that nothing can express the game more than its track album. Unlike other parts of the game, its gameplay doesn't offer anything new, a well made cover system game with its own little innovations. 10 out of 10 the graphics and arts are both realistic as they should be and good enough to score 8 out of 10. With all that is said the story progression is just too perfect that its hard to close the game even after finishing it. A lone man will never be able to decide for the lives of others, no matter how good your intentions are, your ignorance will take you down as you are nothing but one human in billions. But that's not it, this is the real world and soon you'll find out trying to be the hero only made you the main villain. The story of the game is colored in gray, you may find yourself as the savior for the first few hours of the game and willing to even kill your fellow comrades in pursuit of that goal but it costs, not only for them, and not only in the physical world, it will slowly break down your mental health and before you even realize it you're lost. ![]() Tho the game contains a massive amount of violence and disturbing scenes, unlike other third person action shooters out there, they have a target: to show you the real face of war. ![]() Spec ops the line isn't you'r typical cod experience, an underrated masterpiece that faded between all these shiny war marked i.p s.
